150th school celebrations- History of our library

During in our open school on Saturday morning I was privileged to meet Mrs Adrienne Branelly, the lady who had a dream for this school. While her daughters attended our school in the early 1970s she had the foresight and motivation to establish a library in our school.  She volunteered her time for approximately 7 years until Paul Lucas employed Eileen Dalton, a qualified librarian. We have had a wonderful history of literature-loving librarians who kept our library evolving for children since 1970.

Eileen was followed by Gail Kennedy in 1984 followed by Maureen Jones in 1986. These are approximate dates. I arrived in 2007 to follow in the footsteps of these wonderful women. It is enlightening to understand the history and growth of an institution as so many have put their heart and soul into our wonderful library.

This is Adrienne Branelly with Belinda Walker looking at some of the books archived from the 1970s.

Book Week information 2022

This year our theme is "Dreaming with eyes open".

On Aug 24th children are asked to dress up as their favourite character.  I have suggested Roald dahl as a possible author that conveys this theme perfectly.  Check out his website

The students were encouraged to Be Brave and Make a change.

What could students do?

They decided to understand our first nation people by borrowing books on this very topic.

We also read Tidalick together with the year 1s and they drew their interpretation of the story.

National family reading month in May

2022 marks the 26th year of National Family Reading Month which celebrates and encourages families to read more together.

Most of us know how important reading together is and its long-term value to our children’s success in school and in life. However, we also know it is not always that easy to put into practice with our busy schedules and increasing competition with screen time.

That is why we ask families to take the 31 Day Family Reading Challenge–to inspire you to make reading together for at least 10 minutes every day a focus, to create positive, long-lasting reading habits and lifelong readers!

We hope you enjoy exploring the universe of wonderful stories there are together–from different types of books across many authors and genres, and have a great time taking this challenge!

May is just around the corner.
